10th May 2004   PANTHERS TAKE THE TITLE
West Kirby Panthers have won the Under 13's Football League. They went through the season only losing one game and ended up winning the title by six points. Second place went to Ashville, while West Kirby Wasps took third place. The Panthers success is just reward for the Managers, Andrew & Mario Georgio. The top goalscorer was Dre Georgio with 21 goals. Another prolific goal scorer was Matty Hadikan who scored 12 goals but only in the latter half of the season when he joined Panthers from Vauxhall. The proud captain of the Panthers is Michael Georgio and two awards went to Alex Drysdale who won the payers player of the year and the player of the year award by the opposing teams managers. The goalkeeper, Vaspoza, won the Sportsman of the year award, his animated reactions to every goal scored, is a joy to watch.A special thanks must go to Ian Rush, who gave up his spare time to attend the prize night at the West Kirby Football Club. The players and management are now looking forward to progressing into the Under 14's league next season when they will be playing at The Oval in Bebington.

Panthers go 3-2 up

Panthers Maul The Wasps
A thrilling local Junior Football Derby Match at Newton Park in West Kirby, took place in blustery conditions today (Sunday 11th Jan). The West Kirby Panthers won 4-2 making it a great start to the New Year for the new management team of  Mario and Andy Giorgio. Despite the freezing weather,a good crowd had turned up to witness the game. The Panthers were stung when the Wasps took an early lead following a strike by Jake Monroe. But it wasn't long before the Panthers took a hold on the midfield with Nathan Evans and Michael Giorgio seeing a lot of the ball and making some surging forward runs. The equalizing goal came after a looping shot by (Drey) Andreas Giorgio caught the Wasps keeper by surprise.Soon after 'Drey' gave The Panthers the lead following a good build up in midfield his shot gave the Wasp's keeper no chance and it was now the Panthers who were buzzing. The Panthers centre half Joel Brookes almost scored with a towering header after a spell of pressure resulted in a corner kick, which was floated in from the right.

The Wasps however, were not giving up and were fighting for every ball. They were unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty when 'Buster' was clearly fouled, the Wasp's supporters were incensed when the referee waved play on. The Wasp's however kept plugging away and were rewarded when Jake Monroe scored his second goal with an excellent shot. The half time score of 2-2 was a fair reflection of how the game had gone, there was however an unsavoury incident just after the referee blew for half time, when a Wasp's player appeared to strike out against Andreas Giorgio, who had been a real handful for the Wasp's defence. Both teams managers raced on to the pitch and after heated exchanges the situation was diffused. The referee took no action as he had not seen the incident.

In the second half The Panthers managed to weather the early pressure and went on to win the match 4-2 with Andreas Giogio going on to claim a Hat-Trick. Both teams played with passion and determination, which was to be expected in a local derby. The result meant that The Panthers had now completed a double over The Wasps, following a 3-0 win in November.Paul Drake the Wasp's manager must have took some consolation from his sides never give up attitude and had the 'penalty' incident gone their way then the result may have been different.

Result: West Kirby Panthers 4, West Kirby Wasps 2
Attendance 096
