HOYLAKE residents voted overwhelmingly for their favourite design for the Kings Gap Roundabout as part of the current Market Street improvements.

The proposed new landmark, ‘The Knot’, received great majority support at an exhibition held in Hoylake on Saturday 24th September.

Unique to Hoylake, the design represents a swirl of seabirds in the shape of a Turkshead knot, a decorative knot traditionally used by mariners and fishermen. The sculpture was erected on the 8th June, causing a huge traffic jam and is cast in bronze and raised up above the roundabout.

There has however been a mixed reaction to the sculpture, some people just think it looks like a load of metal stuck on to 4 galvanised posts, others like the idea but feel it could be prettied up a little. We will have to wait and see.........
