Hoylake is  a seaside town in Merseyside, famous for The Royal Liverpool Golf Club, one of the finest links courses in the World and is situated a few miles to the west of Liverpool. It is located on the tip of the Wirral peninsula, on the corner between the estuary of the River Dee and the sea. The main shopping area is Market Street, which is the main road that runs through the town and carries on easterly to the village of Meols and westerly to West Kirby. The Royal Liverpool Golf Club is situated on Meols Drive which is the road that runs from Hoylake roundabout to West Kirby. After you have had your fill of shopping, there is a great range of food and drink to suit all tastes in the restarants and lively venue bars and homely pubs, with live entertainment being the norm in many.
The town grew up in the nineteenth century as a fishing village, though with the silting up of the Dee estuary little fishing is carried out today. However, the town still supports a permanent lifeboat station, and a sailing club. The town is now largely a retirement location, though there is also an active nightlife in the town centre, with Hoylake Social Club in Trinity Road being the venue for top shows.
Hoylake is the home of the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, which has hosted many major tournaments such as the British Open and the Walker Cup. It will host the British Open again in 2006, after a gap of 39 years.
The town also has an active rugby club.
It has two railway stations: Hoylake and Manor Road.
The focus of the golfing world will be on this lovely seaside town, as Hoylake is about to enjoy another historic event by hosting the 2006 Open Golf Championship. This is great news for both residents and visitors and it is well worth visiting now and seeing what the town has to offer for yourself. There are a good number of Guest House and Hotels in and around the locality, along with Camping and CaravanParks. Local residents will
be renting out their houses and apartments when the Golf Open comes around

Hoylake is also famed for it's Sand Yachting, with Championship events being held every summer. A good fun day to be had, is the Hoylake RNLI Lifeboat Open day, when thousands of visitors come along to view the lifeboats and Air displays by many different Aircraft types, including The Red Arrows. There are numerous other activities on the day. The Hoylake Lifeboat team have been the saving lives for years now.
The promenade stretches from the King's Gap all the way to Meols Parade and eventually to Moreton Shore and it's Lighthouse. There are superb views of Liverpool Bay and on a clear day Blackpool Tower is visible on the horizon.
Hoylake Lighthouses
The two Hoylake Lights were named "Upper Lake" and "Lower Lake" Lights. The lower light was constructed out of timber, was eight metres high and may have been designed to be movable. It was later rebuilt in brick in 1833, again in 1865 and now forms part of the foundations of the old "Winter Gardens" cinema (now closed) next to the Lifeboat Station. The Upper Light was also rebuilt in 1866 and is still in existence. The lighthouse now forms part of a private dwelling house in Valentia Road, Hoylake
